Empowering Women Creators and Entrepreneurs Through Community with Tricia Creason-Valencia

Jul 09, 2024

Welcome back to the Wellness Center Creators podcast! Today, we are joined by the dynamic Tricia Creason-Valencia, a documentary filmmaker, teacher, keynote speaker, and founder of Powerhouse, a creative workspace for women in downtown San Jose. Tricia shares her inspiring journey from filmmaking to creating spaces that foster community and creativity among women entrepreneurs and creators.

"I try to really create a space where people feel safe and inspired. We gather in groups, and there are no wrong answers. We're just here to be together and to create."

Tricia discusses the importance of storytelling in building empathy and community, the challenges and rewards of her multifaceted career, and the foundational principles behind Powerhouse. She emphasizes the significance of creating environments where women can thrive, both professionally and personally, and how her experiences as a mother and educator have shaped her mission.

"I want to invite women to the space who have kids at whatever stage and whatever age. If there's a day when your kid needs to come, that's not going to stop you from doing what you need to do."

We dive into the concept of integrating joy and creativity into the workplace, the power of collaborative writing, and the critical role of community support in personal and professional growth. Tricia also shares insights on how small businesses can benefit from fostering a collaborative and supportive culture.

"I want folks to move outside their comfort zone to experience other people's perspectives. In one arena of my life, I was practicing it pretty heavily as well in my teaching… working with youth, really creating space. I don't think adults listen to youth enough."

Join us for this enriching episode as Tricia Creason-Valencia enlightens us with her wisdom on storytelling, community building, and the transformative power of creativity.

We hope you enjoy this insightful and inspiring episode. If you find it valuable, please share it with others who might benefit from Tricia's wisdom and experience.
